Sherri Blum has always been the artistic type... shes been seen doodling and sketching since she could hold a pencil, and even painting murals and wall hangings since a student in high school! Friends were always asking her to sketch a picture or paint a canvas for their rooms, and even during childhood, several of her sketches and paintings were featured in local exhibits and shows. One of her earliest commissions was a very large wall hanging of a unicorn for her high schools junior prom in 1985. Since this large mural wall hanging had to be a temporary fixture, she took a cue from the hand painted wall hangings of medieval days and used a large piece of canvas for her temporary mural. At several feet in length, it made quite a statement and was a great focal point for the big night! Friends and family had encouraged her to seek a career as an artist from a very early age. It took nearly 20 years, but fate finally brought her full circle to the career she was always expected to pursue! After several years as a high school teacher, Sherri decided it was time to use her artistic talents for a living, and began her own design company, Bare Walls Design Co. in 2000. Sherri loves putting her talents to use designing beautiful rooms for her clients. She coordinates paints, fabrics, furniture and accessories with ease and creates unique and wonderful rooms. Not long after beginning the first company, she opened Jack and Jill Interiors which specializes in the design of childrens rooms. She especially enjoys decorating childrens spaces because she can interact with the child to discover his or her unique personality and express that personality through her room design. She also thoroughly enjoys painting whimsical designs, and decorating for children allows her more opportunity to put that talent to work. This life-long love of art and whimsy led to the creation of her own designer line of childrens wall art and hand hooked wool signature rugs, Sherri Blum Designs which opened in late 2003. While designing nurseries for her clients, Sherri realized the need for portable murals and personalized wall art for her clients who wish to give their children beautiful wall murals, but who are concerned about the possibility of job transfers and moving to new homes after such a large investment. Therefore, following the idea she used to create that prom mural back in 1985, Sherri decided to create a line of large scale, hand painted and personalized childrens and nursery wall hangings. These 3x2 canvas wall hangings make a unique and beautiful substitute for permanent murals. They have a rod pocket sewn in and come ready to hang with a dowel rod and ribbon. When the need arises, the wall hanging can simply be rolled up, placed in a tube and stored away for the next nursery, moved to a new bedroom or even saved for the next generation to enjoy. And so Sherri Blum Designs was born. Sherris designs, advice and exclusive line of hand painted childrens wall art have been featured in numerous print and online publications including HGTV, Chesapeake Homes Magazine, The Examiner, The Washington Post, Decorating Spaces Magazine, Pregnancy Magazine, Maryland Woman Magazine, ePregnancy Magazine, Vermont Home Style, Families First, Northwest Woman, Tidewater Parent, Suburban Focus, Pregnancy Today, Baby Zone, Modern Babies and Children, The Baltimore Sun and many more. Her decorating tips were requested and published in a book entitled Mothers Know Best and two of her nurseries along with her GROW wall hanging are featured in the 2006 edition of the popular nursery design book, Ideas for Great Baby Rooms by Sunset. In the spring of 2006, Sherri received an exclusive invitation to share her designs with the celebrity stars of Hollywood at the Oscars Boom Boom Room, a great honor for her.
